Our newest Meet The Member is John Dove. John will share how he “found” ALTO.

What John fails to tell is how he and DJ have become a stable part of group as they travel a good distance and make most of our events!

We are certainly glad that they no only “found” us that day, but that they came back the next day and that they keep showing up!!

“I am originally from Queen City, TX but moved around as a kid. After high school I married my wife Angelia. We raised three daughters and would take them on camping trips. My grandpa and nanny gave me a love for fishing. During our family camping trips, I would fish with the girls. One time, when we went to Oklahoma, I bought a fly rod to try my hand at fly fishing. I certainly didn’t know what I was doing but I still liked it.

When my daughters grew up, my youngest daughter gave me my first grandson, Jonathan (DJ). DJ became my fishing buddy and we enjoy the time we get to spend fishing. During one of our fishing trips to the spillway at Lake O’ Pines, we met a man that told us about ALTO and fly tying. We were both interested. DJ and I went to the Bluegill Bash and met a lot of great people. We were both hooked.

With Mike Hawkins help, I purchased a fly vise off FB marketplace. Since then, I have bought DJ his first rotary vise and he enjoys tying crappie jigs, flies, and whatever else he can. He wants to one day create his own design. I also have two more grandsons from my middle daughter, David and Noah. I look forward to when they get big enough to fish and hopefully learn to tie flys.”
